Dialectical Behavior Therapy
for Individuals with Substance-Use-Disorders

DBT-SUD is an expansive treatment for individuals who have complex mental health issues and co-occurring substance use disorders and wish to reduce their use. There are adaptations to the DBT-SUD program specific to individuals struggling with substance use.

Goals of this program include:

  • Building a Life Worth Living without reliance on substances

  • Increasing motivation to reduce or stop use

  • Increasing awareness of urges to use and learning skills to tolerate and reduce them

  • Increasing awareness of high-risk situations and other factors that contribute to use and relapse

  • Structuring the environment to support a life of recovery

  • Reduce mental health symptoms that commonly co-occur with substance use disorders
